The Amazing Norlun...

My bad...forgot to put a title in so it didn't update...sorry about that!

These Norlun troughs can be amazing...I've seen several of them set-up on the Maine Coast when I worked up in Portland...15" in one town and a few towns away 2"...impossible, beautiful, incredible...almost every adjective applies when talking about a Norlun.  Surprisingly my thoughts from last night haven't changed much despite the complex atmospheric set-up about to unfold.  I still like a notable Norlun type trough to form to our south and west tomorrow and focus snowfall over a narrow band from Long Island through Western Connecticut and into the Berkshires and Hudson Valley in New York.  At the same time onshore flow will be commencing here producing light snow and flurries in the afternoon through the evening with coatings likely through tomorrow evening's commute.  Tomorrow night, the trough begins to move...or at least the upper level energy does and shifts over Massachusetts late Friday night and early Saturday morning.  This will enhance the snowfall over us for a few hours then the models show the energy continue to the north into Northern New England where it will sit for an extended period of time producing another band of heavier snow centered around the New Hampshire Seacoast or maybe even Northern Essex County extending up into the Mountains of Northern New England.  In Between it doesn't appear at this time that the dynamics will line up enough for more than a few inches of snow.  Again, I know I sound like a broken record, but it needs to be said...we are essentially trying to determine the flare up of a summertime squall line...it's all about the placement of these convective like bands.  As of right now they look like they'll set-up just south and just north of us and most of Mass is sandwiched between with lighter snow amounts.
