70 Years Later, Medford WWII Veteran Laid To Rest
ARLINGTON, VA (CBS) - Nearly 70 years after Medford resident Sgt. Roy Surabian vanished during World War II, his remains have come home.
WBZ-TV's Bill Shields reports
Younger brother Charles was there Thursday as Roy was laid to rest at Arlington National Cemetery.
Sgt. Surabian crashed his fighter jet into the mountainous jungles of New Guinea.
Years ago, Surabian's plane was found on a mountainside, along with pieces of human bones.
Those bones were eventually matched through DNA. In the final chapter of a haunting mystery, Surabian was finally given a proper burial.
Nearly 74,000 Americans are still unaccounted from World War II.
