You can't help feeling you're in the midst of a Winter Wonderland when you take a spin on the Boston Common's outdoor rink. Bring your own skates or rent them on site. Don't forget to stop at the Frog Pond Café where a warm, fresh Belgian waffle can take the cold bite out of the air.

Daily: 5 PM - 9 PM

Imagine stringing up these lights! Ten acres covered in 300,000 twinkling lights, and free for all to explore. Or for a couple bucks you can hop aboard the Christmas trolley or holiday hayride to tour the grounds. Be sure to visit Clopper, Mary and Joseph's donkey from the holiday children's book. He's hanging out near the outdoor manger.

The halls are decked with boughs of holly inside Jordan's Furniture in Avon. Dozens of animated figures pose in festive yuletide scenes… and it even snows indoors here. Yes, these are the same characters that generations of kids enjoyed on display in Boston.

Christmas Vacation Week: 9:30 AM - 4 PM

Sleigh rides and chestnuts roasted on an open fire. Journey back in time to a New England Christmas circa 1830. Visit weekend evenings in December and learn the history of holiday traditions like the Yule Log and Mistletoe. Tour the village shops and houses and snap photos of your favorite holiday decorations.

It's a Holly Jolly Christmas scene in Carver. Small faces are sure to be glued to the windows during a train ride through a wonderland of lights. Don't leave without visiting Santa's village, and riding the vintage amusement rides.

Step out of your car into a magical scene of twinkling lights and real live reindeer. Be sure to visit Santa and tell him if you've been naughty or nice.

Check your list, then check it twice. Now 'wrap up' your holiday adventure, at this winter open air market. A relatively new Boston tradition, it features local artisans selling everything from handmade jewelry, to unique clothing and edible holiday treats. Follow your nose to the tastiest smelling treat, then get that last minute shopping done.
