BOSTON (CBS) – Police are looking for the driver who hit a six-year-old girl Saturday night and drove off.

The girl was walking home from church with her parents around 8:30 p.m. when she was hit by a silver Jeep Cherokee at the intersection of Cambridge St. and Harvard Ave. in Brighton.

She was rushed to Children's Hospital Boston, where she's being treated for what police call "life-altering head trauma."

"The little girl suffered a fractured neck and I think, initially, there was some bleeding to the brain," Officer Eddy Chrispin told WBZ-TV Sunday.

Investigators say the Cherokee has front end damage and possibly one or two broken headlights.
