6-Year-Old Billerica Girl Sells Her Toys For Cancer Research

BILLERICA (CBS) - A 6-year-old girl from Billerica wanted to make a difference, so she decided to sell her toys to raise money for cancer research.

Kathleen Skelton said her daughter Emma figured she had more toys than she could use, so she put them in a yard sale to raise money to help fight cancer.

"She did this through her karate school, and apart of becoming a black belt is to do a community project, so she did it through there. We know lots of kids that have done a lot of really important, impact community projects there, and when the children found out that she was doing this this past weekend, lots of them brought in their own toys and had the exact same reaction and wanted to make a difference," said Skelton.

WBZ NewsRadio 1030's Doug Cope reports.

Emma and her 14-year-old brother raised $125 by selling dolls, stuffed animals and action figures. The money will go to Voices of Hope, an organization that contributes 100 percent of donated funds to cancer research.
