The six people were taken to the hospital with non life-threatening injuries.
"Early this morning they received a phone call from the neighbor that smoke and fire was coming out of an apartment house from across the street. Police were first on scene and notified the fire department that people were trapped on the second floor. The fire department got there, and they had a quick rescue. They rescued five people out of the second floor window by ladder. There were six people rescued altogether," said Dep. Chief Scott Dexter of the Taunton Fire Department.
Dep. Chief Dexter said that three hydrants near the home were frozen and not working, so firefighters used water from the truck to extinguish the flames.
The cause of the fire was accidental.
