$50K Bail For Lowell Man Accused Of Robbery With Child In Getaway Car
Police say 22-year-old Brian Cunneen of Lowell, Mass., was charged with armed robbery and being a felon in possession of a firearm and 27-year-old John Hickey of Lowell, Mass., was charged with criminal liability to an armed robbery. They say a 22-year-old woman and her 6-year-old daughter were passengers in the car.
At his arraignment Monday, Cunneen was ordered held on $50,000 bail.
Cunneen and Hickey attempted to rob a Crosstown Variety store at gunpoint, but he clerk refused to give in.
"She refused to give him the money and he ended up leaving and getting into the car with another individual and they took off down the highway," Manchester Police Sgt. Craig Rousseau said.
Police also say Hickey was driving the getaway car. He was in court today as well. Little did both suspects know they were being followed by Tiffany Sasseville.
She was parked at the store in her 1996 Pontiac Firebird. She followed the would-be robbers, while her friend called 911.
"And he was telling police the whole time where they were driving. I just kept them in my sights," Sasseville said.
Police arrested both men at a New Hampshire toll plaza.
"Without that person we wouldn't have known the direction they were going. They basically led us to them," Sgt. Rousseau said.
Sasseville says following the car was very intense.
"I feel like we stopped something that might've happened again," Sasseville said.
The mother and child were not harmed. Both men are due back in court next month.
