$500 Bail For Man Accused Of Intentionally Crashing Into Tedeschi's
DENNIS (CBS) ---- The man police say crashed his truck into the Tedeschi convenience store on Route 28 early Sunday morning, was released on $500 cash bail.
Christopher Sprague, 32, of West Yarmouth was arraigned Monday on charges of vandalism, leaving the scene of an accident and negligent driving.
The incident was reported through several 911 calls at 12:36 a.m., the Dennis Police said in a prepared statement.
Witnesses reported a dark colored Dodge pickup truck drove through the front entry way of the store. The truck, which was completely inside the building, reversed and pulled forward several times while inside the store before backing out and leaving the scene.
The truck nearly hit a customer in the store, the police said. The customer had to jump over the sales counter to avoid being struck.
A short time after the incident, Yarmouth Police received a call about some debris on Wedgemere Road in West Yarmouth.
Yarmouth officers found the suspect vehicle at a Circuit Road East home.
At his arraignment Monday, Sprague's lawyers said their client is a former U.S. Army soldier and claims he was not driving at the time of the accident.
The building at 964 Route 28 that houses the Tedeschi store as well as Swan River Liquors, sustained serious structural damage and was deemed unsafe by the town of Dennis building inspector.
Both businesses have been ordered to close until the building is made structurally safe.
