Red Cross Assisting 55 People After Fire At Lowell Condominium Building
LOWELL (CBS) - More than 50 people were affected by a fire at a condominium building in Lowell on Sunday.
The fire broke out around 4:30 a.m. at the building on First Street Boulevard. Thirty-six units in the building were damaged by smoke and/or fire.
Firefighters had to rescue some of the residents using ladders.
The Red Cross is assisting 55 people affected by the fire.
"We are making sure that they have clothes. Some folks had to run out in pajamas. We're making sure people have food, and we're working with our partners with the city of Lowell, particularly the emergency management folks, who are making sure that everyone has emergency medication that they need on hand," said Kat Powers, a Red Cross spokesperson.
The cause of the fire is under investigation, but it does not appear to be suspicious.
