WBZ-TV's Jonathan Elias reports
"Anytime anyone is shot in the city, we're gonna have a strong presence. But, this is a young person between 4 and 6 years old. It's just absolutely not acceptable, and we're gonna pull out all the stops to investigate this case. And again, we need the public to step up on this to send a big message that they will not allow this type of behavior to take place in this city," said Supt. Bruce Holloway of the Boston Police Department.
A man was also shot in the leg. He is said to be fine.
Police said they are looking for two people. Two dirt bikes or motor scooters were seen racing away from the scene after the shooting.
Boston police are urging any witnesses to call.
