4 People Killed In Conn. Crash; Car Has Mass. Plates
PORTLAND, Conn. (AP) — A car crash in Connecticut has killed four motorists, including three from Massachusetts, and critically injured a fifth, the police said.
Portland Police Sgt. Scott Cunningham told The Associated Press that the crash occurred at 2:45 a.m. Saturday in Portland. Police told WVIT-TV that the car, which has Massachusetts license plates, slammed into a metal guardrail and spun out of control at the corner of two roads.
The station reported that the dead include 24-year-old Pedro Duprey, 42-year-old Ivette Amaro and 20-year-old Andrea Caraballo, all of Springfield, Mass.. Thirty-year-old Ramon Ruiz of Hartford. also was killed.
Eighteen-year-old Juniarys Caraballo, of Springfield, was listed in critical condition Saturday.
Neighbors said the stretch of road where the accident occurred is dangerous and that it isn't the first crash they've seen there.
Cunningham said investigators are trying to determine whether speed was a factor in the crash.
