4-Foot Alligator, Pit Bull Found Abandoned In New Bedford
NEW BEDFORD (CBS) - A 4-foot alligator was found abandoned in a New Bedford apartment on Tuesday.
According to WPRI-TV, Animal Control officers discovered the cayman alligator and a pit bull roaming the apartment on the second floor of a building on Ashley Street around 8:30 a.m.
The pit bull had no water, while the 25-pound gator had a cut under one of its legs.
The former tenant, Richard Fumo, will be charged with animal cruelty and animal abandonment.
Because it is illegal in Massachusetts to have an alligator in a home, state environmental police are also investigating, according to SouthCoastToday.com.
New Bedford Animal Control now has custody of the alligator.
