Thousands Lose Power In Somerville, Charlestown, Cambridge
SOMERVILLE (CBS) - It was a tough day for power officials and residents in Somerville, Charlestown, and Cambridge on Wednesday.
Officials had to deal with two power outages that affected thousands of residents.
The first outage began at 10 a.m. and affected 36,000 NStar customers in those areas, according to NStar officials.
"Power was lost to several electrical circuits when workers at our Mystic substation in Somerville were putting an electrical transformer back into service as part of routine maintenance," wrote Mike Durand, an NStar official, in an e-mail to WBZ-TV.
Crews were able to quickly reroute power around the issue using other equipment.

Power was initially restored to all customers at around 10:30 a.m., but a second outage related to the first one affected customers again. The first outage caused a breaker to trip at a secondary substation, causing that second outage.
Officials restored power after the second outage by 12:30 p.m.
