3 Chelsea Police Officers Treated After Exposure To Fentanyl
CHELSEA (CBS) – Three police officers were rushed to the hospital after responding to reports of three men who overdosed in a van in Chelsea.
The officers may have been exposed to the powerful opioid fentanyl while reviving the men with Narcan.
Chelsea Police and fire arrived on Williams Street to find the three men passed out from an apparent drug overdose.
Police say the men were riding slowly in a minivan when they rear-ended another vehicle. The other driver got out and noticed that the three men, all in their late 20's to early 30's, were unresponsive.
Officers used Narcan to revive two of the men. One of the men needed six doses. The driver of the van woke up without the use of Narcan. All three men were taken to Whidden Hospital in Everett.
White powder and drug paraphernalia were found in the van. The powder was sent to the state lab and tested positive for traces of fentanyl.
Three officers who responded to the scene were taken to Mass General Hospital as a precaution. They were released Friday night.
