3 Lowell Police Officers Hurt Making Arrest
LOWELL (CBS) -- A man who allegedly hurt three Lowell police officers while they were arresting him Monday night will be arraigned on Tuesday.
Jesus Ocasio, 38, was held overnight. He will be facing multiple charges, including assault and battery and vandalism, when he appears in Lowell District Court.
A couple of people in the Concord Street neighborhood told WBZ-TV's Susie Steimle they were sitting in their cars when a man walked down the street, went up to some of the cars and started smashing windows and driver's side mirrors.
Police were called to Concord Street in Lowell around 6:15 p.m. on a report of vandalism.
Witness Jason Miller says it all started when Ocasio smashed his driver's side window.
"The look in his eyes...I wasn't stepping out of the van. That's for sure," he says. Instead, he called police.
When an officer tried to speak with Ocasio outside of his home, he allegedly attacked him.
"The kid answered the door, some scuffle ensued and he threw the cop down the stairs," Miller said. "The cop went back up the stairs, and he threw the cop down the stairs again. He went back up the stairs and started tussling with him again, and he threw him back down the stairs.
"He slammed the door and told the cop to stay out of his house."
Following the altercation, the officer was seen spitting out blood before calling for backup.
Police say the two responding officers were also attacked by Ocasio. Ocasio allegedly put out a cigarette on one of the officers.
They were taken to the hospital after suffering non-life-threatening injuries. They are expected to be OK.
