WBZ-TV's Christina Hager reports

"We don't know how it transpired," Police chief John Romero said in a news conference late Monday morning. "There were no reports of any gunshots."

A short time later, police arrested Milka's boyfriend, 40-year-old Jose Luis Tejeda.

Tejada had been in a relationship with Milka for about five or six years, according to Romero, and had been living with her and her children.

Police said Tejada approached someone outside the home after the shootings and said he had killed somebody. That person called 911. Tejada was arrested at a nearby housing complex.

A weapon was found outside the back door.

All victims had been found shot in Max's bedroom.

Max Montanez was a 10th grader at Greater Lawrence Technical High School, where he was a guard on the football team.

His sister Sachary was about to start college.

"They're good kids. Their mom was a great mom. She was a really good mom. She worked hard to support her kids. They were wonderful kids. It's a terrible loss. It's a really big loss for the family," a friend of the victims' told WBZ NewsRadio 1030.

A motive for the shootings is still not clear.  Police had not been called to the home in the past and there were no restraining orders.

Tejada will be arraigned Tuesday on three counts of murder.
