SAUGUS (CBS) - Massachusetts State Troopers and DEA Agents seized $1 million worth of heroin and crystal meth on Thursday, and arrested three people with suspected ties to a large Mexico-based drug trafficking network.
State Police say someone tipped off the authorities that the men were staying at a hotel on Route 1 in Peabody.
After watching two of the suspects leave the hotel with a large duffel bag, State Troopers assigned to the Transportation Drug Force and DEA agents assigned to a Southern N.H. High Intensity Drug Trafficking task force pulled over their car on Route 1 in Saugus.
Police recovered four kilograms of heroin from the duffel bag and arrested the men in the car. The third suspect was arrested a short time later.
Troopers and agents executed a search warrant on the hotel room and found an additional kilogram of heroin and two kilograms of methamphetamine.
The suspects, Juan E. Nunez, 37, of New York City; and Jose Morales, 43, of Haverstraw, New York; and Alfredo D. Lopez, 33, of Van Nuys, California, were charged with trafficking in narcotics and conspiracy to violate the Controlled Drug Act.
