App Will Let Bostonians Summon Ice Cream Truck
BOSTON (CBS) - Quite possibly the greatest (or worst) app ever invented is set to launch Friday in Boston.
In honor of National Ice Cream month, San Francisco-based Uber is releasing an app that allows you to summon an ice cream truck.
The app will be available in a handful of cities, including Boston.
The trucks in Boston will sell novelty ice cream, soft serve, and even some Ben and Jerry's pints.
According to Uber's website:
• You can request ice cream by selecting the 'ice cream cone icon' in your Uber app.
• Set the location where you want the ice cream truck to show up and tap 'request ice cream delivery here.'
• You'll receive an ETA and be able to communicate with the driver.
The catch is that you have to put a credit card on file, and you have to order a minimum of five ice creams per visit. Uber will bill your credit card $12 for each bundle of ice cream you order.
The trucks will only go to Back Bay, South End, Beacon Hill, North End, Financial District, Seaport, and South Boston, and only operate from 12 p.m. to 6 p.m.
