College Student From Norwell Dies In Fall From Safari Bus In U.S. Virgin Islands
SAN JUAN, Puerto Rico (CBS/AP) -- A 20-year-old from Norwell, Massachusetts has died after falling from a bus in the U.S. Virgin Islands.
Virgin Islands Police spokeswoman Melody Rames says Sarah Dargon was riding one of the open-air "safari buses" on St. John with her younger sister when the incident occurred. The younger woman told police she was texting on her phone and didn't realize her sister had fallen until after it happened. The driver had been going about 20 mph (30 kph) at the time along the steep and twisting roads of St. John.
Dargon initially got up, but later collapsed. She was airlifted to Miami for medical treatment. Miami-Dade Medical Examiner's Office spokesman Larry Cameron said she died Tuesday.
Dargon's family told WBZ-TV she was devoted to children and volunteered with under-privileged kids.
Dargon was a student at Vanderbilt University. The school sent out an e-mail to students about her death:
"She had many friends at Vanderbilt and will be sorely missed by the students, faculty and staff who knew her."
