20-Year-Old Driver Charged In Crash That Killed Retired Middleborough Teacher
MIDDLEBOROUGH (CBS/AP) - The 20-year-old man police say was involved in a car crash that took the life of a respected former Middleborough High School teacher and coach was ordered held on $50,000 cash bail at his arraignment Wednesday.
A spokeswoman for the Plymouth District Attorney's office says Zachery Lemmo of Middleborough was arrested Tuesday and charged with motor vehicle homicide while drunk in connection with the crash Saturday night that took the life of 61-year-old James Braga.
At his arraignment Wednesday, prosecutors alluded to evidence Lemmo may have been drag racing with friends moments before the crash.
Prosecutors say Lemmo was driving an estimated 70 miles per hour when he ran a red light on Route 44 on Saturday night and struck a car driven by 61-year-old James Braga.
Braga, a Vietnam veteran, taught business at the high school and coached boys' soccer until his retirement several years ago.
