Wenham Father, Daughter Killed In Wisconsin Plane Crash
BOSTON (CBS/AP) — A private equity executive from Wenham and his daughter were killed in a small plane crash in Wisconsin.
Joseph Trustey and his daughter Anna were the only people on board the single-engine passenger plane that crashed and caught fire at Milwaukee's Timmerman Airport around 6:15 p.m. Wednesday.
No one on the ground was hurt.
There's no word yet on what caused the crash.
Joe Trustey was a managing director and chief operating officer of Summit Partners in Boston.
"Joe and Anna were traveling to the Midwest for a college visit tour, and tragically, neither survived the accident," the company said in a statement Thursday.
"Joe was uniquely distinguished in so many ways: as a partner, a leader and a friend. He was a wonderful husband and father who also cared deeply for those with whom he worked both inside and outside the firm. He touched everybody he met with his intellect, his sterling character and his engaging sense of humor. We cannot express how much we will miss his presence in our lives," Summit's Marty Mannion said in the statement.
"We appreciate the outpouring of support, comfort and prayers that are being offered by all those who knew and loved Joe. Our thoughts and prayers are with the Trustey family, and we are focused on supporting them during this challenging time."
Trustey had been with Summit Partners since 1992.
He is survived by his wife Kristine and their daughters Caroline and Claire.
The couple's oldest son A.J. died in October 2014 at the age of 22.
On Thursday night, around 400 people gathered at the Shore Country Day School in Beverly for a vigil remembering Joe and Anna.
"It did get pretty tearful, but it was nice for the community to get together," said neighbor Hilly Ebling.
Until June, Trustey was the school's board chair. Anna attended a private high school but had recently come back to teach a summer sports clinic.
"I know five of the kids here had conversations with her the day she died that's how close this group was," said Larry Griffin, headmaster.
Trustey was part of the PMC Team Daisy/Summit Partners. His teammates said they thought about not riding this weekend, but said the team will still take part because that's what Joe would have wanted.
Trustey graduated from Notre Dame in 1984 and was featured in a video on the University's YouTube "Coffee Break" channel last November.
