2 Passengers Killed In I-495 Crash In Wrentham

WRENTHAM (CBS) — Two people were killed in a crash on Interstate 495 south in Wrentham early Monday.

State police say a 2009 Chevrolet 1500 pickup truck slammed into a guardrail and burst into flames just before Exit 15 shortly after midnight.

Two passengers, a 22-year-old woman and a 24-year-old man, both from Massachusetts, were pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver, a 23-year-old Massachusetts man, was rushed to Rhode Island Hospital in Providence on a medical rescue helicopter.

No names have been released.

There's no word yet on what caused the crash.

In a statement late Monday morning state police said the pickup "veered left, crossed the left lane and the shoulder of the road, and struck the end-cap of a section of guardrail separating the highway from the median strip."

"Evidence suggests the truck impacted several sections of guardrail and was redirected back across the left travel lane, rolled over across the center lane, and came to rest on its wheels in the center and right lanes" police said.

The southbound side of 495 was closed between exits 15 and 16 for more than three hours.
