2 Casino Deadlines Approaching
BOSTON (AP) — A pair of deadlines is approaching as the state's casino process moves forward.
Commercial developers seeking a resort casino license in the southeastern Massachusetts region have until the end of Monday to submit preliminary applications with the state gaming commission.
The state's 2011 gambling law gave preference in the region to a federally recognized Indian tribe, but the commission has decided to accept bids from commercial developers while it monitors ongoing efforts by the Mashpee Wampanoag tribe to gain federal and state approvals for a proposed casino in Taunton.
Another deadline is on Friday, when companies seeking the sole license for a slots parlor in Massachusetts must file final applications with the commission. Bids are expected for proposed facilities in Plainville, Raynham and Leominster.
