16-year-old Kyle Louzada, a sophomore at Randolph High School, was found in the yard of his neighbor's home on Oak Street just after 7 p.m. Thursday.
Preliminary autopsy results indicate he died from a single gunshot wound to the head. A firearm was located Friday afternoon near where the shooting took place.
Investigators would not rule out the possibility that the shooting was accidental.
"The initial story is that he was playing with a friend's gun and it went off," Louzada's cousin told reporters Friday.
The 911 call to report the shooting came from Louzada's house.
Several people who were inside at the time of the shooting were questioned by police.
There have been no arrests.
It's still not clear how Louzada ended up outside.
Sources told WBZ-TV that police have visited Louzada's home several times in the past.
