15-Year-Old Kaz Grala Of Westborough Earns First NASCAR Win
BOSTON (CBS) -- Westborough native Kaz Grala now has the first NASCAR victory of his young racing career.
The 15-year-old raced his way to his first career victory in the NASCAR Whelen All-American Series Rusty Harpe Memorial 171 at Caraway Speedway in North Carolina over the weekend.
Grala, the youngest driver competing in the NASCAR K&N Pro Series East, led 22 laps before the competition caution on lap 100 and never fell out of the top three. He remained in the top two spots and took the lead on lap 147 following a quick pit stop, and went on to take the checkered flag by a 1.8 second margin.
In doing so, he made history as the youngest driver ever to win a NASCAR series race at Caraway Speedway.
"The team led by Garrett Campbell has worked so hard to make the OzLINK No. 31 the best it can be and it all paid off tonight," Grala said from Victory Lane. "The win is my first in this series, and it is the first win for Garrett Campbell Motorsports. It is just amazing."
Grala now heads home with the NASCAR K&N Pro Series East this weekend for the tour's next race, the Granite State 100, which takes place at the New Hampshire Motor Speedway on Friday, July 11th.
