14-Year-Old Girl Critically Injured By Car In Lowell
LOWELL (CBS) -- A 14-year-old girl is in "extremely critical condition" after she and multiple vehicles were struck by the same car in Lowell on Thursday afternoon, police say.
The crash occurred on Wood Street around 3:22 p.m.
After getting off of a Lowell Regional Transity Authority bus, the girl walked in front and began to cross the street, police said.
Witnesses told police a car two cars behind the bus traveling in the same direction crossed the center lines of the street, passed both vehicles, and struck the girl.
The car continued on, hitting the girl a second time, police say, and then sideswiped two vehicles stopped in the opposite lane. The car then struck a third vehicle head-on, causing it to push into a fourth.
The girl was rushed to Lowell General Hospital before being taken by medical helicopter to Tufts Medical Center in Boston.
Police say the driver who struck the teen, Fatmata Jalloh, 54, of Lowell, is in custody. Her license has been revoked after being deemed an "immediate threat."
Jalloh and the driver of the vehicle struck head-on were both taken to area hospitals after suffering minor injuries. They were later released.
Investigators are trying to determine what charges will be brought against Jalloh.
