$100K Bail For Man Charged With Bringing Guns To BU Commencement
BOSTON (CBS) -- Attempting to hide his face in court, 28-year-old Andrea Massa, faced a judge Monday, charged with multiple counts including carrying a loaded handgun and 28 rounds of ammunition onto school property.
Prosecutors say on Sunday, Massa carried two 9 millimeter handguns and attempted to enter Boston University commencement to watch a family member graduate. But when he realized there was a security checkpoint, he turned and walked away and police took notice.
Prosecutors say Massa then became disruptive when trying to leave and that's when they arrested him.
During his arraignment Monday, the judge asked for a mental evaluation.
Massa and his wife recently bought the guns. He does have a Class A License to Carry but it's for hunting and target practice only. The Marshfield resident does have one prior incident. He was accused of threatening another academic institution back in 2003 but those charges were dropped.
Monday, his family left court without saying a word. At Sunday's graduation, Massa's wife told WBZ, her husband meant no harm.
The judge ordered him held on $100,000 and he's due back in court June 19.
