100 Degrees In June? It's Possible
BOSTON (CBS) - While summer may not officially arrive until 7:09 p.m. Wednesday, it sure feels like it is here already!
Temperatures at 9 a.m. were already above 80 degrees in many locations, setting a very high launching pad for them to skyrocket this afternoon.
By noon there were already some 90 degree readings and by later this afternoon some towns will hit the century mark, 100 degrees!
Temperature this high combined with dewpoints in the upper 60's will make it feel like it is more than 100 degrees, a true oppressive heat.
For this reason the National Weather Service has issued a Heat Advisory from noon until 7 p.m.
This is essentially a warning that heat illnesses are possible and any prolonged work in the sun or poorly ventilated areas should be avoided.
It is recommended that everyone stay in air-conditioned environments as much as possible and drink plenty of fluids.

Here are a few things we will be watching today.
1) Records:
The record for Boston today is 98 degrees set back in 1953. We will come real close. Worcester's record is 93 also set in 1953. Again, this will be a close call.
2) 100:
Should we hit 100 degrees in Boston it would be the first time since last July 22 when we hit 103. Boston has only hit 100 or higher about 25 times in recorded history (well over 100 years).
3) 100 in June:
Another interesting weather statistic - 100 degrees is even more rare in June. In fact, it has only happened twice in recorded history, once in 1925 and again in 1952. So this could be our first 100 degree day in June in 60 years!
4) Thunderstorm Development:
There is a very low risk of an isolated thunderstorm today. Best chance of any thunderstorms comes on Friday with a cool front.
5) Heat Wave:
An official heat wave is three straight days of 90 degrees or higher. We will certainly get two days (today and tomorrow) and there is a better than 50-50 chance that Friday will top 90 as well. This would be our first heatwave since July 31-Aug 2 of 2011.
