Man Killed In I-495 'Road Rage' Rollover Crash In Mansfield
MANSFIELD (CBS) -- One man is dead and another is in critical condition following a "road rage" rollover crash in Mansfield. The man blamed for the crash has been charged with OUI.
State Police say the drivers of a 2007 Chevrolet 2500 pickup truck and a 2007 Ford Ranger pickup truck became involved in a road rage incident as they traveled on Route 495 north shortly before 11 a.m. on Monday.
The driver of the Ford, identified as 67-year-old Michael Hinds of Norton, intentionally made contact with the Chevrolet, police say. Both vehicles took the Exit 12 ramp at Route 140 and a second collision occurred between them, police say, causing the Chevrolet to rollover. The Ford then drove away.
Police say the driver of the Chevrolet, 37-year-old Jarrad Aronne of Foxboro, was pronounced dead at the scene. His passenger was flown by medical helicopter to Rhode Island Hospital.
Police found Hinds at his home and arrested him. He is facing several charges including motor vehicle homicide while under the influence of liquor and assault with a dangerous weapon.
To his family, Jarrad Aronne was everything. "Jarrad was our first born, he was a good kid and a great man," his mother Andrea Aronne says.
Aronne's parents, his seven-year-old son, his fiancée, her two children and his friends were comforting one another at his home Monday night.
"I'm sorry words are escaping me because I'm in shock," his mother says. "I find it hard to believe he's gone and feeling emotions about how it happened."
Aronne's parents now just want justice for their son and a tough sentence.
"I just hope like crazy whatever judge he goes before gives him the maximum for his crime," she says.
Hinds is being held by State Police and will face a judge on Tuesday.
The crash remains under investigation by Mansfield Police and State Police.
