Amy Kawata
Amy Kawata joined the WJZ News team in January 2020 as a reporter.
Before coming to Baltimore, Amy lived in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina where she was the morning reporter at WMBF. Before that, she was a production assistant at KSNV in Las Vegas.
During her time in Myrtle Beach, Amy covered Hurricanes Florence and Dorian, highlighting the community's recovery and flood mitigation efforts. Other career highlights included shining a light on the health community, following Horry County's efforts to fight the growing opioid crisis and the growth of South Carolina's booming hemp industry. Additionally, Amy hosted a weekly entertainment segment featuring touring artists and performers in town.
Amy was born in Los Angeles, California, and grew up in Las Vegas, Nevada. As a graduate of Syracuse University, she's no stranger to the cold! While she is thrilled to be back in a big city, she is most looking forward to getting to know the community and becoming a voice for those who need one.
During her free time, Amy enjoys traveling the world (mostly for the food), watching award shows, catching a live concert, and exploring the city for cool places to grab a bite!
If you ever see Amy out on the job, feel free to say hello! Have an idea for a story? She would love to hear! You can reach her at akawata@wjz.com or connect with her on Facebook (Amy Kawata TV) and Twitter (@AmyKawata).
