WWII Film Event Includes Used Limbs For Filipinos
WASHINGTON (AP) -- A video production company is promoting its World War II documentary, "Rescue in the Philippines," with a Capitol Hill screening that includes a donation of used prosthetic limbs to the typhoon-battered nation.
The event Tuesday is a joint effort of 3 Roads Communications of Frederick, Md., and Ability Prosthetics and Orthotics of Gettysburg, Pa.
The movie tells the story of 1,300 Jews who fled Nazi Germany for the Philippines just before the war.
Producer Russ Hodge says the partners began collecting used limbs for the Physicians for Peace program to thank Filipinos for welcoming the Jewish refugees.
He says last week's disaster added urgency to the appeal for $750,000 worth of used limbs. Hodge says some of those limbs will help storm victims.
