WWII Airman's Burial Comes 68 Years After Death
ARLINGTON, Va. (AP) -- The remains of a World War II airman from Baltimore are being buried at Arlington National Cemetery more than 68 years after he and 10 crew members died in a plane crash.
The Pentagon's POW-Missing Personnel Office says Tech. Sgt. Charles Bode was scheduled for burial with full military honors Friday afternoon.
Bode was 23 when his B-24D Liberator disappeared on Nov. 20, 1943. The plane was found in 1984, and it took investigators more than 20 years to identify the men's remains.
Maj. Carie Parker says Bode's interment is the last among the six crew members whose remains were identified individually.
She says the others will be buried together, along with some remains from the first six, at Arlington March 24.
