Would-Be Armed Robber Shoots 7-Eleven Clerk
BALTIMORE COUNTY, Md. (WJZ) -- The suspect in an armed robbery in Baltimore County remains on the loose. Police say he entered a 7-Eleven and shot an employee.
Jessica Kartalija has the details and what police are warning residents to look for.
It was a snowy and icy Sunday evening. A busy 7-Eleven on Pleasant Plains Road in Loch Raven was shut down and turned into a crime scene.
"This was an unknown suspect who walked into a 7-Eleven, demanded cash. There was a brief altercation between the suspect and the victim, and the victim was shot in the course of that," said Elise Armacost, Baltimore County spokesperson.
The victim was transported to Sinai Hospital. The male suspect--who took off without any cash--is believed to have been acting alone.
"We really don't have a lot to go on right now. He was wearing a mask and gloves," Armacost said.
While it's back to business at the 7-Eleven now, those who frequent the store say they're stunned.
"It's unfamiliar because it's a really good neighborhood. I was never afraid to be around here or anything. I come around here all the time; I come here and get my coffee and stuff and I've never seen anything go wrong," said Sultana Cesario.
At this point, police don't believe the robbery is connected with other crimes in the area, but they're urging county residents to stay alert.
"Be aware of your surroundings. Criminals look for people who are vulnerable and not paying attention to their surroundings," Armacost said.
7-Eleven employees spoke off camera and say the victim is recovering and is expected to be OK.
