Woman Who Caused Fatal Crash Gets To Return Home
ANNAPOLIS, Md. (AP) -- A woman who caused a fatal crash while driving on a learner's permit will be able to serve the remainder of her one-year sentence on home detention.
Elizabeth Ramirez, 20, of Millersville was sentenced in November to six months in jail, followed by six months home detention for a July 2011 accident that killed a taxi driver. The Capital of Annapolis reports that on Thursday a judge said Ramirez could serve the rest of her jail time at home.
Prosecutors said Ramirez was waiting for a red left turn arrow to turn green when she turned into the path of a taxi driven by Javaid Firdaus, 63, of Glen Burnie. Authorities say Ramirez thought the light had turned green.
