Woman Killed, 2 Children Hurt When Car Hits Tree
LA PLATA, Md. (AP) -- The Charles County Sheriff's Office says a woman was killed and her two young children were injured when the car the woman was driving left the road and hit a tree.
It happened about 8:40 a.m. Tuesday on Parkway Subdivision Road in La Plata. Deputies say 30-year-old Sharon Marie Sams of La Plata was driving when her car left the road for an unknown reason and hit a tree.
Police say Sams died shortly after the crash. Her children, a 6-year-old boy and a 5-year-old girl, were flown to local hospitals.
Deputies say the children suffered serious, but non-life threatening injuries.
The crash is under investigation.
