BALTIMORE (WJZ)—A woman is found dead inside of her Fells Point home, and right now police have no suspects and no motive.
Rochelle Ritchie has more on the circumstances surrounding the woman's death.
Police have not identified the woman, but others confirm she was a server at Pazo restaurant in Harbor East for the past three years. Concerned coworkers notified police when she didn't report to work for several days.
Her body was found early Tuesday morning.
It's an unusual scene on Bond Street in Fells Point after Baltimore City police find a woman dead inside of her apartment.
"At about 10:30 p.m. our officers were flagged down in the 700-block of South Bond Street. There was a concerned citizen who wanted to report she hadn't seen her friend in quite some time. Our officers responded to the dwelling and made entry," said Sgt. Jarron Jackson, Baltimore City Police.
Inside, officers found a 40-year-old woman dead. Her death is now being investigated as a homicide.
"It's pretty stunning to me because I walk up and down this street often," said Laretha, Fells Point resident.
Police say the victim had trauma to her upper body.
"Our detectives have been working diligently since the onset of this case to examine all the circumstances and examine as much evidence as they can," Jackson said.
People who live work and walk in the Fells Point neighborhood say it's surprising to see homicide detectives on the scene to investigate a murder.
"I have been working down here for years. We never had anything like that down here. It's a big surprise," one man said.
"It's terrible news. I hate to hear it," said Emily, Fells Point resident.
While the news is disturbing, the murder appears to be targeted.
"At this time it doesn't appear to be random, and our detectives are examining some strong leads in this case," Jackson said.
Police have not said how the woman died.
The homicide is under investigation and police are asking for anyone with information to call 410-396-2100.
