Woman Found Dead After Fire In Cluttered Home
CHEVERLY, Md. (AP) -- Prince George's County fire officials say a woman in her 60s was found dead after a house fire in Cheverly in a home that was filled with hoarded items.
Fire officials tell The Washington Post that the hoarded materials may have contributed to the fire and made it difficult for firefighters to get into the house.
The woman was found on the second floor of the home near the stairs around 8 a.m. Sunday and was the only person in the house at the time of the fire. Officials say the house did not have a working smoke detector.
Before Sunday's fire, there had been 10 deaths from fires in Prince George's County this year. There were 10 such deaths in the county in all of 2012.
