Woman Charged In D.C. With Kidnapping Of Infant
WASHINGTON (AP) -- District of Columbia police say a woman has been charged with kidnapping after failing for days to return an 8-month-old child to her mother.
Police say Jessica Walls, 20, occasionally babysat the infant and was supposed to return him to her mother last Monday. But police say she made up excuses to keep the baby a little longer, including that she was staying at her mother's home in Maryland, and then held him for a total of four days without the permission of the child's parents.
Police say Walls first claimed to be the child's biological mother before admitting to detectives that the baby was not hers and that she did not have permission to have it.
A lawyer for Walls didn't immediately return a call seeking comment Monday.
