Woman Charged In Cathedral Vandalism Admitted To Psychiatric Ward
WASHINGTON (AP) -- A woman charged with defacing the Washington National Cathedral with green paint and suspected of similar vandalism at the Lincoln Memorial and other sites has been admitted to a hospital psychiatric ward.
A lawyer for Jiamei Tian told a judge during a hearing Thursday that if Tian's metal condition stabilizes, she can go back to a halfway house where she has been staying. The lawyer, Nancy Glass, didn't elaborate on concerns about Tian's mental health. Another status hearing in the case was set for Sept. 18.
Tian is accused of splashing green paint in two cathedral chapels. She was released to a halfway house after her arrest in late July and is wearing a monitoring bracelet on her ankle. Tian was barred from leaving the halfway house or having visitors.
