Woman Arrested After Hit-And-Run Crash Kills Woman & Toddler
BALTIMORE (WJZ) -- She is accused of plowing her car into three people, killing two of them. One of those victims was just two-years-old. The woman driver is now facing a long list of charges.
Monique Griego has more on how police tracked her down.
Police Wednesday night arrested 28-year-old Lucresha Mints. They say in a fit of rage, she jumped into her car, drove onto the sidewalk and right into the victims. It all happened as a crowd of people watched in horror.
Helen Whitfield is still dealing with the intense pain of losing her niece and grandson.
"My grandson was only two-years-old. My grandson didn't even live his life," she said.
Tuesday evening, police say 25-year-old Latoya Skipwith, her two-year-old cousin Joshua Carter and an unidentified seven-year-old little girl were deliberately run down by a car that fled the scene.
Wednesday night, investigators arrested the alleged driver, 28-year-old Lucresha Mints. Police say tips from the community are what tracked her down.
"Evil has no face," said Rev. Harry Close, New Union Baptist Church. "Unimaginable that people would act in that format."
Detectives say the situation unfolded after Mints and Skipwith got into an argument near the corner of Franklin and Monroe streets. At some point, Mints jumped into her car.
"The suspect in this incident deliberately used her vehicle as a weapon by driving onto the curb along the sidewalk," said Sgt. Jarron Jackson, Baltimore City Police.
Police say Mints aimed for the victims that were sitting on church steps. The impact then threw them 10 to 15 feet into a nearby stairwell.
All three victims were taken to the hospital, where both Skipwith and the toddler died.
"My niece was a hardworking mother, a beautiful mother of two. She never did anything to hurt anybody," said Whitfield.
The seven-year-old little girl is expected to be okay. Mints is facing a list of criminal charges, including two counts of murder and attempted murder.
"I just want justice for my grandson and my niece," said Whitfield.
At the time of the incident, Mints was already awaiting trial on another criminal assault charge.
The community is holding a candle light vigil Friday night at 7 p.m.
