Woman Accused Of Getting $10K In Cancer Scam
TOWSON, Md. (AP) -- A woman has been ordered to stand trial in Baltimore County on charges she got $10,000 from former Ravens player Mike Flynn by fraudulently claiming she's dying of cancer.
Prosecutors say Lisa Hoppenstein Cohen told friends and acquaintances she had terminal cancer and needed the money to pay for medical treatment.
People who gave her money recalled her claiming that one of her arms was going to be amputated.
Asked outside a courtroom Wednesday whether she had cancer, Cohen told The Baltimore Sun, "Nothing's been proven." She also said she had worked for Flynn and he owed her the money.
Flynn was an offensive lineman who left the Ravens in 2008.
Speaking by phone from his home in Boston, he said he wanted to warn people about Cohen.
