Woman, 4 Children Found Safe On Backbone Mountain
OAKLAND, Md. (AP) -- The Garrett County Sheriff's Office says a woman and her four children were found safe after getting lost on Backbone Mountain.
Deputies say 43-year-old Julie Jo Quick and her children left their vacation home in Preston County, West Virginia, on Thursday to hike to Maryland's highest point.
Authorities say Quick's husband called the sheriff's office about midnight when his family did not return home. Quick's car was found near the start of the trailhead.
Officials say Quick posted a photo on social media saying she and the children had reached the highest point, but became disoriented in the darkness when they tried to get back to the car.
Deputies found the five unharmed about 7:30 a.m. Friday on an abandoned mine road between Garrett County and Tucker County, West Virginia.
