With Unemployment Benefits Set To Expire, Mayor Rawlings-Blake Talks City Job Services
BALTIMORE (AP) -- With federal unemployment benefits set to expire for more than 1 million Americans, Baltimore officials are trying to inform city residents about their options.
Mayor Stephanie Rawlings-Blake will host an event Friday alongside officials from her Office of Employment Development to call attention to city services for the unemployed.
The mayor's office says more than 5,000 Baltimore residents will be affected by Congress' failure to extend emergency unemployment benefits.
The city is connecting people looking for work with job training and opportunities through a program called Community Job Hubs. There are five hubs in the city that provide job skills training to up to 20,000 people a year.
