'Wire' Actor Discusses His Recent Attack
BALTIMORE (WJZ) -- Beaten and stabbed. Actor Anwan Glover, famously known for playing on HBO's "The Wire" is recovering after a brawl at a DC nightclub.
Christie Ileto has his account of the moments leading up to the attack that came out of nowhere.
A night out quickly took a violent turn for actor Anwan Glover.
"Pain, still in pain," he said. "Just a little woozy."
He was stabbed in the right side of his chest at DC nightclub Cafe Asia. Police are now hunting the suspect.
A star in HBO's "The Wire," filmed right here in Baltimore, and most recently "12 Years a Slave," says he was there to see a band. He describes the flurry of activity as a blur.
"There was a bunch of people pushing, trying to move out of the way, and I felt that," Glover said. "They were like, `Are you okay?' I said, `I don't know' and then I look and there was blood. It was shooting out."
Glover says he doesn't know who stabbed him, only recalling he was punched, fell to the ground and kicked multiple times before someone pulled out a knife.
Police have shut down the nightclub until at least Friday, saying in a letter to the DC Liquor Board, "...continued operation of this establishment presents an imminent danger to the health and safety of the public."
In fact, police have come to the DC hot spot nearly two dozen times in the last three years...though this latest incident highlights a violent cycle that almost cost Glover his life.
The Alcohol Control Board investigated Cafe Asia earlier this year following a December 2013 fight outside the club that spilled into nearby streets.
