Winter Weather Advisory: Md. Dodges Icy Conditions During Morning Commute
BALTIMORE (WJZ)— On Thursday, the National Weather Service issued a Winter Weather Advisory for parts of Maryland in anticipation of a wintry mix of snow, sleet and freezing rain Friday between 4 a.m. and 10 a.m.
But Marty Bass reports most of Maryland saw just rain—not freezing rain.
That's a different story to the north and east of Maryland. Two lows are merging to become one gigantic nor'easter, bringing a couple of feet of snow from Central New Jersey to New England. At times, the weather system will bring hurricane force gusts along the coast.
Though Maryland does not anticipate severe weather, the state still took precautions, as any untreated surface has the potential to become icy, especially on elevated surfaces.
State highway crews activated at 2 a.m. Friday. Baltimore County crews activated at midnight.
Area highway departments are monitoring forecasts and are prepared.
A Winter Weather Advisory means that periods of snow, sleet or freezing rain will cause travel difficulties. The National Weather Service advises motorists to be prepared for slippery roads and limited visibility and to use caution while driving.
