Mega Millions Ticket Worth $26M Sold In Md.
MOUNT AIRY, Md. (WJZ) -- A Maryland gas station sells the winning Mega Millions lottery ticket!
Christie Ileto has more on the excitement swirling around the mystery winner.
Somewhere in Maryland, someone is sitting on a Mega Millions jackpot ticket worth $26 million.
It was sold at a Mt. Airy gas station.
"I was shocked!" said Gina Humphreys. "I didn't know it was here. I knew it was in Mt. Airy, but I didn't know right here."
"I've never been to a place where they've sold anything quite like this," said Ralph Harris.
Some regulars are even wishing they'd taken a gamble sooner.
"I was just thinking this week--$26 million, maybe I should get a ticket, and I didn't!" said Sharon Osborne.
Gas station staff may be tight-lipped about the $26,000 they're getting for selling the winning ticket, but it's no secret this place is a lucky charm.
"He's selling the winning tickets, I figured I'd get one," a customer said.
Mega Millions tickets are sold in 44 states. The odds of winning the jackpot--175.7 million to one.
Maryland Lottery says the mystery winner has 182 days to claim the cash prize. They can either take $665,000 a year for 26 years, or get $12.6 million after taxes.
"It's a win, win, win everywhere you look at it--the retailer, certainly whoever won that ticket, and the state of Maryland," said Carole Everett with the Maryland Lottery.
The state cashes in too. They get $1.6 million in taxes.
As for the mystery winner, you have millions of people lining up to be just like you.
The last time Maryland had a Mega Millions jackpot winner was March 2012, when the "Three Amigos" won $218 million in Baltimore County.
The Maryland Lottery says if you have the winning ticket, make sure you sign your name on the back. That's the only way you can claim that prize.
The winning numbers from Tuesday night's drawing were 1, 15, 19, 30 and 56, with a Mega Ball of 28.
