Window Washer Rescued From 10th Floor Of Towson Building
TOWSON, Md. (WJZ)—It was a tense afternoon. Emergency crews rushed to save a window washer trapped high above the ground.
Mike Schuh has more on how the difficult operation unfolded.
When it all went down, the window washer grabbed the rope—burning his hands and palms and hitting his head on the side of the building. But he did manage to stop himself.
On the east side of the Edenwald retirement complex at 800 Southerly Rd., he was 120 feet or more, dangling above the ground.
Window washers are used to the danger of the height. But clearly something went wrong here.
"He had a rope situation of some sort where he couldn't get himself down any farther and couldn't go up. He was stuck kind of between two floors," said firefighter Chris Hale.
So, some of the most trained firefighters within the department went up, covering three sides from the window below, from above, and when stabilized, from a basket below. Hale was on a rope outside next to the man.
After dangling for about an hour, the man was brought down safely.
"He was just ready to get down. He hung there long enough," Hale said.
The man was taken to Shock Trauma. His name has not been released by the county.
So far the window washing company has not returned calls to Eyewitness News.
