Wildfire Burns Near Lockheed Martin Facility In Fla.
ORLANDO, Fla. (AP) -- Firefighters are stamping out a 1,000-acre brush fire near a Lockheed Martin facility in central Florida.
More than 30 Orange County firefighters joined Florida Division of Forestry teams Sunday to get the blaze under control.
Authorities say there are no residential structures within miles of the fire, but the Maryland-based defense contractor does have several buildings on the property.
The Orange County Fire Rescue Department says firefighters first responded to the area early Sunday afternoon after a column of smoke was spotted. Authorities say it took several hours to get the fire under control.
Cliff Frazier of the forestry department's Orlando district said the fire was about 75 percent contained Monday.
Frazier says dry, windy conditions are fanning brush fires caused by lightning strikes across central Florida over the weekend.
