Where's Marty? At Direct Dimensions learning about the 3D scanning process for Marvel movies
Hi Everyone!
Today's "WM?" involved a company called "Direct Dimensions."
Located in Owings Mills, they are a worldwide leader in 3D scanning. World Wide Leader.
For almost 30 years, Direct Dimensions has been refining and redefining the business of 3D scanning.
How good are they? How about about this. Direct Dimensions has participated in the making of 75 movies.
One you may have heard of is "Avengers End Game." Another, "Spiderman." And another "Dark Swan." And the list goes on.
And we found this gem "in our own back yard," as I like to say.
And this story is so large that today was part 1.
Tomorrow, to do Direct Dimensions justice, we will return for part 2. It's the first time K2 and I have done that.
Direct Dimensions does a ton of architectural and military work.
The movies are a big deal but not the bulk of their jobs. (Matter of fact here is their website and I urge you to visit and see more of their portfolio, https://dirdim.com/. As it's front page says, "We make the impossible possible.")
But how do you not tell founder and CEO Michael Raphael, "Tell us about the Marvel Universe?", when you speak with them about the Hollywood connection? We did and he said let's start with a 3D picture of you.
So last Thursday, I went to their Owings Mills facility, stood on a specific riser, and in 1/16th of a second 160 cameras took a shot of me in an area where those cameras are lined up floor to ceiling, and in a circle. (In the first and second clips you will see me in 360 degrees.)
And when we arrived today, not only was there the picture, but various 3D models of me made from it. (Note the picture and models were done on the fly. For Robert Downey Jr. to become "Iron Man," using that some riser, it takes a bit longer!)
Please go to the website, and watch the clips, as they really tell the story of a company so cool it will take another visit tomorrow when we will not be talking about making movies, but rather working with CBS to create the Nickelodeon broadcast of the Super Bowl.
