Police Lift Lockdown On 6 Carroll County Schools
WESTMINSTER, Md. (WJZ)-- The lockdown on six schools has been lifted after the Carroll County Sheriff's Office finished searching the area around the 300-block of Gorsuch Avenue in Westminster after a suspected shooter was reported as a resident of the area.
Deputies found a man shot in the right hand and leg at a home on Gorsuch Avenue just after 11 a.m. Friday. He told police that he was confronted and shot by a man he recognized as an area resident, who fled the home after the shooting. The injured man provided a detailed description of the suspect. He was taken to the University of Maryland Shock Trauma Center with non-life threatening injuries.
Police cordoned the area surrounding the home and imposed a precautionary lockdown on four public and two private schools in the vicinity while they searched for the suspect.
At about 1:30 p.m., a source close to the man who was shot told police that the shooting may have been self-inflicted. Police then lifted the lockdown on the schools.
The Sheriff's Office continues to investigate the incident as a shooting, and ask anyone with information to call them at (410)386-2900.
